Annual Conference Sessions
Wednesday - Day 3 of 3
Breakfast & Lunch Included for Attendees

THURSDAY MORNING

Breakfast - with optional Round Table Discussions

7:30 - 8:30 am

8:30 – 9:20am

The home care “world” continues to change and the competition just gets stiffer!  Agencies must be prepared to defend and gain market share.  There are recent, significant changes regarding freedom of choice that all providers need to know.  All types of hospitals, for example, are required to comply with CoPs for hospitals for discharge planning, including requirements related to patients’ right to freedom of choice.  There is also a significant new emphasis on collaboration between discharge planners and post-acute providers.  It is also now clear that providers may offer so-called “pre-op” or “pre-hab” coordination visits to patients in their homes so long as applicable requirements are met.  The purpose of this presentation is to address these issues with an emphasis on recent developments and practical guidance.

8:30 - 10:20am

This presentation will help agencies develop a marketing plan that fits their business and assists them in understanding the ins-and-outs of how to market, who to market to and when to market in the private duty and/or home health industries. With Bob’s step-by-step marketing process, attendees will learn the best methods for developing a marketing plan that fits their unique business needs and for setting up and delivering the most effective marketing budget for their company. Bob will review the methods of “fishing in a barrel” vs. “fishing in the ocean” when pursuing marketing opportunities. Through specific tools directed at target audiences, individuals will see the marketing success of Cypress HomeCare Solutions, ranked the #1 home care agency in Arizona.

2nd SET of MORNING BREAKOUT OPTIONS: 10:30-11:50am

This session will allow home health staff a deeper dive into the world of revenue cycle management, including cash flow.  Billers, Collectors, Managers, Administrators, come one, come all!  If you need a better understanding of what it takes to get paid for home health services -- you will not want to miss this session.

Home health agencies and administrators should understand the provisions of the health reform law (Affordable Care Act) that affect their practice and their patients' access to high quality and affordable care. Florida has been the national poster child for success with the Health Insurance Marketplace, while our state legislators and governor have opposed the reform law through the courts, by declining available funds for innovation demonstrations, and for expansion of coverage. We have new data that details where improvements to access and care have occurred and where we have opportunities to improve. Health care agencies and workers can and should be at the forefront of health reform innovations. This presentation will equip attendees to advocate for Floridians' health and the role of health professionals in health reform.

Significant regulatory change has occurred in 2015 and more is rapidly approaching. Home Health and Hospice providers are facing Accreditation/Medicare Certification Surveys that are very different in content, approach and expectation. The approach that might have resulted in a “passing” survey will not meet today’s standards. This presentation will provide participants with a 90 Day roadmap to survey readiness, utilizing a team based change management process. The focus will be on assessing readiness in three primary risk areas, establishing compliance goals, a PDSA process to achieve them and an ongoing approach to maintain that level of readiness.

The purpose of this education activity is to enhance knowledge of the home health Registered Nurse in the area of the quality measures (process and outcome measures) that are used in determination of the publicly reported Quality of Patient Care Star Rating by addressing contributing factors and OASIS guidance per authoritative information deemed appropriate by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in an effort to ensure accurate and optimal ratings as evidenced by positive feedback from participants.

Learn the difference between Tele-Health, Tele-Medicine, Tele-Monitoring and Tele-Care.  We will explore the history of telehealth in technology development, clinical applications, service models and reimbursement. Come discuss the current challenges of healthcare reform, the new roles of tele-health, clinical trials and outcomes in home health settings. Together we will try to understand the current service and reimbursement models for tele-health in home health settings in order to prepare for the future of tele-health clinical applications, services and reimbursement.

This dynamic presentation provides participants with clear insights and strategies for developing a Total Customer Service Program. Learn the newest strategies to create a program that will dramatically impact your three key customer groups: patients and family members; physicians, discharge planners and other referral sources; and agency staff. Learn how a “real” customer service program can increase patient satisfaction and loyalty, generate more referrals and new sources of referrals, and directly impact your ability to increase staff satisfaction, morale and retention. This program will give participants the tools to become the preferred provider in a competitive field.

1st SET of MORNING BREAKOUT OPTIONS: 9:30-10:20am

In recent years, HHS-OIG has called for tightened oversight of HHA’s. The implementation of additional sanctions for non-compliance has created a sense of urgency for HHA’s to develop and implement a compliance program to protect their operations from fraud and abuse. An understanding of the HHA’s PEPPER report can guide auditing and monitoring activities.

Take a deeper dive into the waters of compliance expected by surveyors, auditors and the OIG.  Investigate the foundation for regulatory adherence and increase awareness of the 7 OIG recommended elements of compliance. Learn ways to implement an effective program to keep your organization on course and out of turbulent water!

Are we having fun yet? A lot of agencies are NOT... Agencies have found that the specificity required, the knowledge required for ICD-10 is overwhelming in many cases. Agencies are seeing many RTPs for incorrect codes, holding up their cash flow. Many agencies are also struggling with their in house coding due to lowered productivity, causing a bottleneck for the agency affecting compliance and cash flow. And to make it more difficult, we already have Big changes that we need to comply with! Changes in WHEN to use the 7th character A, changes in Excludes 1 and 2 notes, use of LCDs, and more updates as they occur will be presented in this session. Join Sharon Litwin as she will discuss challenges that agencies are having due to ICD-10 and how to overcome them. And she will give strategies and tips to progress with ICD-10. Continued education is necessary for your coders and clinicians to lessen knowledge deficit and to document more specifically. A focus on the referral sources in which you are not getting adequate referral information is essential – but do you know what information you need?. Continuing training and dialogue is key to accurately coding your patients. And don’t forget about reimbursement! Nonspecific information, and knowledge of the coding rules, and guidelines is key to getting the most accurate and optimal reimbursement possible.
